    REVENANTS AND TERMINATORS:
    MOTIVES FOR BLACK SPECULATIVE FICTION

    andré is an associate professor of english, experienced teacher, researcher and writer dedicated to interdisciplinary inquiry in the liberal arts and the possibility of social justice. 

    A graduate of New York University, andré's specialties lie in American Studies, Media Studies, modern African Disapora and American intellectual/cultural history and politics, feminist theory and practice, Critical Race Theory, queer theory, popular culture, film, comics, print culture, art history, world literatures, presentation and, instructional technology. His research explores the politics of race, gender, and genre in Black and American cultural production.

    andré carrington will explore how the intellectual tradition known as Afrofuturism and related movements have given African American literature and popular culture a distinct role in animating and responding to the politicized meanings of race in American life. The presentation will draw on carrington’s forthcoming book, Audiofuturism (Fordham University Press), and his recent edited anthology for Library of America, The Black Fantastic: Twenty Afrofuturist Stories.
